Reminder: The deadline for entry submissions to “To Our Idols” and “Bodies of Work” is fast around the corner: February 4. Full prospectus and entry forms can be downloaded from rockawayartistsalliance. org. The two shows run concurrently in sTudios 6 and 7 from March 13 to April 3. Opening re-eption: Sun-day, March 14, 12 – 3 p.m.

“To Our Idols”: Whom do we look up to? What things inspire us? From places to objects to people — contemporary, historical or fictional, famous or not, “Idols” invites each artist to ex-plore these questions and more. Art-ists may express themselves in, but are not limited to, photography, watercolor, painting, mixed media, sculpture, mu-sic, performance, video, drawing, cartoon and more. This is a juried exhibition.

“Bodies of Work”: This juried exhibition invites each artist’s unique talents and perspective in exploring and celebrating the oldest and most enduring artistic subject. The human body is represented here in all its phases, incarnations and views. Figures may be clothed or unclothed, still or in motion, alone or in the context of groups or any setting or background. “Bodies of Work” is open to all media, including the visual as well as the literary and performing arts.

More glimpses at “Spanning Connections,” now at RoCA:

“The Red Covered Bridge,” an oil painting by Mary Meade, evokes memories of northeast winters, buggy rides and brilliant late fall foliage along a snow-covered road in the country. In Vanessa Rieth’s black and white photograph, “Bridges to the Past,” lines of composition, the relative weights of architectural structures and the use of dark and medium tones and one stark white impel the viewer to a visual and emotional payoff.
