The Place to Dance and Exercise!
It’s one of the most elegant, newly renovated indoor spaces on the peninsula— Mrs. Elaine’s School of Dance at 181 Beach 116 Street in Rockaway Park. Proprietor Elaine Freeburg found the perfect spot for the school last year, and designed the space as a soothing and inviting haven for dance and exercise.
Elaine began teaching 16 years ago when she became certified with the Dance Educators of America. She previously taught special needs classes at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. Opening her own dance studio has been a lifelong dream, and she is thrilled to be running her own establishment here in the community.
The schedule is diverse, and the school is presently offering ballet/tap combo, hip-hop, jazz, belly dancing, lyrical/modern, and contemporary dance classes. Instruc tion is tailored to the needs of young dancers, with groups broken down into ages 3-4, 5-6, 5-7, 7-8, 7-9, 9-12, and ages 13 and up.
For students who wish to compete and earn trophies, Mrs. Elaine’s also offers a chance to audition (or be invited) to join competition classes. The school’s competition team competed at the Access Broadway event in NYC in January, 2010, garnering six gold and silver-level trophies, and performed in the Rockaway “Little North Pole” fundraiser for juvenile diabetes. Also, ballroom dance is coming to Mrs. Elaine’s soon. Dance is only one part of the offerings. The fitness class schedule includes beginner and advanced yoga, Pilates, abdominals, interval training, beginner fitness, and kickboxing. The school has introductory specials, including unlimited classes for two weeks for $30. It’s a great way to kick-start your exercise program for 2010!
