Locals Help Haiti Earthquake Victims
Following the devastating earthquake this week in Haiti, locals are coming together to collect needed supplies to send to the country where hundreds of thousands may have died. Les Paultre, the president of the Rockaway Beach Neighborhood Association, called The Wave on Wednesday to say that his organization would be collecting such staples as water, clothing and medical supplies to send to Haiti.
“We are putting together a coalition of organizations and drop-off points,” said Paultre, a native of Port au-Prince, Haiti. “We will be talking with the councilman [James Sanders] this evening.”
If you are interested in helping, contact Paultre at NPB@nyc.rr.com. The collection, Paultre said, will prob-ably continue for a few weeks to a month.
“We’re hoping for the best, but it looks bleak,” he said.
