Artists In Residence At West End Temple

West End Temple is offering another new and exciting program this winter. Artists in Residence, brings local professional teaching artists together with young aspiring artists, placing them in a studio setting to explore and create. The 7-week fine arts program features a fantastic creative collaboration with Art Adventures & More (AA&M). AA&M is a non-profit arts organization that presents project based learning art workshops which nurture and develop children’s creativity and critical thinking skills. Strong supporters of arts education, building of community, and development of multi-cultural awareness, AA&M has presented many arts events throughout the Rockaways and surrounding areas. Please visit their website at www.artadventuresandmore. com to learn more about their work and artists.

Classes, which begin on Monday, February 1, will focus on visual arts, with guest artists and AA&M co-founders Sophia Skeans and Mandy Francin, and modern dance with guest AA&M artists Mari Meade and Laura Guiterrez.

Initial studio offerings include “Making Artistic Impressions – Degas, Monet, and More,” on Mondays; and “Illumination of the Spirit – An Exploration of Marc Chagall’s Work With Color and Light,” on Thursdays. Both themes can be explored through visual arts and modern dance.

Visual arts instruction will include drawing, painting, sculpting, and mixed media mosaics, while modern dance will focus on basic technique and storytelling through dance and gesture. Participants of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome. Contact the West End Temple office, by telephone at 718-634-0301 or e-mail at office@ westendtemple.org, for complete course descriptions, schedule, and fees. Drop in registration is welcome on Sundays, January 17 and 24, from 9:00 a.m. until noon, or weekdays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., through January 27. West End Temple is located at 147-02 Newport Avenue.
