They beat St. Mary Win - field 10-6 in the finals in a very tough matchup.

The game was tied 6-6 with four minutes left to go when the girls went into their half court press defense and got some key turnovers that they turn ed into four points on offense. Tour nament MVP Breanne McDonnell hit two long jump shots in the game. Tournament all-stars Carly McCann (4 points) and Kelly Ward (2 points) rounded out the scoring.

The boards were dominated by the ferocious Jessica Buckley and Hannah Nicholson, who had a couple of nice stuffs as well. Katie Barrett came up with two excellent late fourth quarter defensive plays and chipped in with a couple of baskets in the previous tournament games.

Kaleigh Gilroy ran the set plays precisely and got off a couple of great shots, one of which resulted in a key free throw in the first game. Angelina Meringolo and Taylor Slakman each dominated earlier games as they both hit two buckets apiece. Meagan Duffy was a defensive force with her aggressive play shutting down her opposition.

Rebecca Boland’s intense play turn ed into a scary ankle injury, which she shook off and heroically came back in the 4th quarter.

Grace DeCrescenzo had the highest individual scoring total with six points in the semifinals. DeCrescenzo’s run and gun style of play was a key to the championship title.

Coaches Kevin Barrett and Kris McCann are very proud of their team as they head into the CYO playoffs with an overall record of 16-2.

The SFDS Bantam girls have a 6-6 record with two games remaining. While the team plays a tough, full court defense, the points are hard won and too few to come by.

But it’s definitely not for a lack of effort or heart.

Johanna Sullivan, Rory Kirk, Lau ren Guidarelli and Lauren Peters provide invaluable minutes in the post positions. Emily Carlton, Jackie Galla gher and Justine Twomey ensure that there is no drop off in the full court pressure defensively and are out quick on the fastbreak.

Kathryn Gibson and Shan non Roch - elle provide a one-two punch of speed, aggressive defense and slashing to the basket that any coach would love to have at his or her disposal.

The backcourt tandem of Ryan Ward and Tess Gallagher are as strong as any other in the league and has mastered the art of double teaming the dribbler. The anchor to the team, both offensively and defensively, is Jenna McCann.

Her footwork and court awareness has more often than not proved the decisive factor in many situations.
