St. Edmund Prep Eagles Hockey Flying Along

The St. Edmund Prep Varsity Hoc k - ey team is making a strong push for the playoffs in the Catholic High Sch - ool Hockey League (CHSHL). The Eag les took down the defending city champion Holy Cross Knights at Abe Stark Arena in Coney Island on Satur - day, January 9 in a tightly play ed 6-5 game. The match was highlighted by a game winning goal by Rock away resident Ryan Rayder. The senior team captain banged in a rebound shot that was set up by tenacious Broad Channel native Ray Recco.

The Brooklyn school is fueled by several other local players – senior Tim Horgan, juniors Mike Cerone and Mike Forcina, sophomores John Wagner and Kieran Rogers and freshman Paul Delaume.

The win marked the team’s fifth in a row.

The streak includes a three game span that had the Eagles taking down rivals Xaverian, St. Francis Prep and Xavier in tough league games to jump them into second place. St. Edmund Prep will host a re-match with Holy Cross on Friday, January 15 at Abe Stark Arena at 8:15 p.m.; or you can follow the Eagles progress on the league website www.chshl.net.
