School Bus Breaking All The Traffic Rules
A Wave reader caught this Logan Bus Company school bus breaking all the rules on Shore Front Parkway at Beach 84 Street on January 6. The reader who sent the photo says that it was taken on the third day in a row that she observed the same bus, Number 3397, ride in the exclusion zone in order to pass a line of cars waiting at a red light. The reader said that the bus, full of children at about 4 p.m., passed the line of cars and the red light by moving into the right-hand lane where vehicles are excluded. In addition, the woman says, the bus cut off the car making the left turn from Beach 84 Street, a car that had the green light. Locals say that buses and trucks using the right-hand exclusion lane has become a major problem on both Shore Front Parkway and Beach Channel Drive. West end residents say that MTA buses, either the Q22 bus, or the QM 16 express bus, regularly use the bicycle lane on Rockaway Beach Boulevard west of Beach 126 Street, making it very dangerous to make a right turn from the major boulevard. Calls to the bus company for comment went unreturned.
