NYCHA Announces Registration To Upcoming Citywide League Tournament

The New York City Housing Authority has announced that registration is underway for the 2010 Citywide Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament. The league will begin this month. The basketball tournament is open to boys and girls who reside in the local NYCHA Housing Developments; Ocean Bay, Hammels, Carleton Manor, Beach 41 Street Houses and Redfern.

The girls division teams will include senior (18 years old and under), Junior (15 years old and under), Novice (13 years and under) and Future Girls (11 years old and under).

The Boys Division teams include: Junior (15 years old and under), Bantam (11- 13), and Future Boys (8-10 years old).

Housing development teams in each borough will play preliminary games against each other. Before the end of the season, each borough’s first and second place winners will advance to the Inter-borough Playoffs.

The championship games are tentatively scheduled to be held at Hammels Community Center in May.

A team may apply for membership in the league by submitting a completed registration roster to his/her development’s Housing Manager for verification of public housing residency. The housing manager will very that no more than 3 players in each team’s roster are non-housing Authority residents and signs the roster. Each team will have twelve players, including no more than 3 non-public housing residents. Residents, community centers staff, and other qualified adults may serve as coaches.
