A Foolish Idea

Dear Editor,

Kim Mannino, in her one-woman crusade for a repeal of the west end parking rules, has lost sight of what is good for the community.

I’ll start by addressing her points. A homeowner should have more rights in any neighborhood than a renter. Many homeowners on the west end have paid in the millions of dollars for their homes. Therefore it is harder for them to extricate themselves from this community. A renter, like Ms. Mannino, can walk away after she destroys the West End and we will have to pick up the pieces. I will say outright and unashamed that I didn’t spend a lot of money to have DFDs block my driveway, throw their garbage on the sidewalk and streets, and turn the west end beaches into the mobs that blanket 116th Street. There is no public infrastructure from 116th to 149th Streets. Where will the beachgoers eat, go to the bathroom, etc? The community cannot afford to have outsiders traipse all over. Our beaches are nice and quiet, familyfriendly settings, free of the mainland thugs that plague areas like Man - hattan Beach.

And for these reasons, Ms. Man - nino, the parking ban is a boon to our neighborhood. You say you live in Rock away Park. Well, is it such an imposition to park your car a couple blocks away on 116th Street and walk two days a week for three months? Or ask your landlord, if you can rent a parking space for the summer? No you would rather kvetch and try to destroy a beautiful neighborhood. You would rather start a class war be - tween the residents of the West End.
