PPA Takes Part In Scripp’s National Spelling Bee
Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School is excited to announce that three of their fifth grade scholars are moving on to the Queens South round of the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee. On November 12, Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School’s fifth grade scholars participated in classroom spelling bees. Out of the 50 fifth graders that participated in the classroom spelling bee 10 scholars moved on to the school-wide round of the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee.
On Friday November 20, the ten finalists participated in the schoolwide spelling bee. The scholars that participated gave up a portion of their lunch for an entire week to prepare for the spelling bee. The scholars went word for word until a winner was confirmed. The winner of Peninsula Preparatory Academy’s School Wide Spelling Bee is Simisola Awogbemila.
The scholars that are moving on will continue to study their spelling words in an effort to be the best speller in Queens, New York City, and beyond. Simisola Awogbemila, Chidiya Ama and Taylor Evelyn will be participating in Peninsula Preparatory Academy’s Speller’s Boot Camp to help them prepare for the competition they will soon face. The Spellers Boot Camp will consist of the scholars staying after school to prepare for the spelling bee.
The Queens South Spelling Bee will be held on January 21 at Forest Hills High School from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Far Rockaway community has a lot to be proud about; Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School scholars will represent our community well. Please support the scholars of Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School as they continue their journey toward the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C
