RTC Spreads Holiday Cheer
The students of the Rockaway Theatre Company’s educational division have been very busy providing entertainment at various venues in Rockaway. The holiday season kicked off on December 4, when members of the Rockaway Theatre Company’s Children Theatre Workshop Chorus sang a selection of holiday songs at the lighting of the Christmas tree on Beach 116 Street. John Lepore, president of the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, and Councilman Erich Ulrich were on hand on this occasion. The children also entertained at the Christmas party given for patients and their families at the Addabbo Family Health Center on the evening of December 17, and once again, at 100th Precinct Community Council’s “Breakfast with Santa” on the morning of December 19.
This year’s performance at the Addabo Health Center was especially meaningful because this activity has always been near and dear to the heart of Ms. Peggy Vivino, one of the directors of the Children’s program, who has been responsible for arranging and costuming this performance for the past seven years. This year Peggy was unable to attend due to illness. The children performed in her honor and both students and parents expressed their sincere wishes for Peggy’s speedy recovery.
The children are not the only ones sharing what they have learned in RTC workshops with the public. On January 2, members of the RTC’s Adult Advanced Tap, Beginners’ Tap, Modern Jazz, Acting and Musical Theatre Workshop will show off what they have learned in a joint presentation at the Post Theater beginning at 1 p.m. This recital is free of charge and open to everyone. Later on the same day, the RTC Dancers will travel down to the Peninsula Hospital Altzheimer’s Division and dance for patients.
The Rockaway Theatre Company is happy to be able to give back to the community at this special time of year.
