The weather through the holidays is giving us all a roller coaster ride contending with heat, freezing cold and pouring rain which makes our shopping days most difficult. However, the people in Breezy need not face the wet roads and crowds. Donald Ritter has a merry little shop behind the “dugout” nestled among the trees, up the Point Breeze block from Kennedy’s called the “Surf Shop.” It is warm and welcoming with holiday music and stocked with all kinds of gifts from sweats and sweaters, golfer and gambler flip flops, designer Tee shirts, surf boards with FREE lease, jewelry and nice warm snuggies to fit every size. Everything in the shop is 10% off. YOU CAN’T BEAT HIS PRICES!
You can also buy on line at: www.breezy surf.com. Save yourself wear and tear. And, it is accessible beyond the gate.
If you are coming to the city (and NYC is so beautiful during the holidays) don’t miss the Guggenheim Museum Exhibition and I especially would like you to stop into their new restaurant, “Wright”, on the corner. They had their opening last week and it was extraordinary. My taste buds jumped with joy as I savored each sampling. Flavors I never knew existed and so, so delicious. Rodolfo Conterreas, who has worked closely with acclaimed Chef David BouIey, is the Executive Chef. It has all been newly renovated and is so sleek and modern. A different dining experience.
At the Plaza Hotel South American Pernambuco Incentive Tourism gave agents and media information on Recife, their beautiful beaches and festive hospitality. The archipelago of Fernando de Noronha is the closest thing to a paradise on earth. Recife is located in the Northern east end of Brazil and is seven hours away from Miami, Florida.
Downtown at 55 Water Street the Australian Association celebrated their world renowned Rugby Award winner with a holiday party for the members of the Association.
Some of the elegant Manhattan stores celebrate the holidays with sales and cocktails/hors d’ouvres, music and dancing for their customers. I attended one at Brooks Brothers and it was delightful. They had ties on sale 30% off if you bought two. They had another party the next week which featured Marlo Thomas’ book signing and more music, food and dancing. Shop while you party.
Surprise! Surprise! My two sons, Kevin and Jimmy Matuozzi came in to take Mom to dinner. That was the best night of all, because don’t see them all year. We parents spend all our lives raising our children and, come a certain age, off they go to live their own lives and many go off in different directions to be seen too infrequently by their parents. And, today, parents are living longer and longer. However, it was a real treat. We found a place to park and an Italian restaurant, Alma on East 34 Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues which was superb. I ordered mussels in garlic sauce and we all enjoyed it. We were so pleased with all our different choices. I could well recommend it. This was a very special evening for me. It was so good to see them.
Moreover, the Central Holidays even ing at the Toledo at 6 East 36 Street was smashing. This is a great Spanish restaurant featuring Pia. Another Star dining spot if you like Spanish food and if you don’t, you will. Central Holidays is the best tour operator in the Mediterranean and, of course they have terrific specials to Spain and Portugal; air and land packages not to be beat. Before you go to Italy, Greece, Spain or Portugal, check with your travel agent.
Over in the East Village, which is being built up tremendously, you can find an old bath house that has been transformed into a meeting venue. It was at Avenue B and East 11 Street, the beautiful Islands of Antigua/Barbuda threw its festive holiday party. There are very special prices thru the holidays and after.
MSC Fantasia and Splendida are cruising the Mediterranean and featuring 60% off on 7nt. Cruises and a 10 nt. Cruise for $399 which expires 12/31/09. They are also offering $200 shipboard credit on suite accommodations.
HAPPY, HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS WITH LOVE, GOOD HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!
AND, AWAY WE GO!!!
