Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
On Beach 116 Street, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!" Shoppers and commuters coming off the train at 116 Street on Friday eve - ning at about 5:30 p.m. received a special holiday treat as members of the Rockaway Theatre Company's Children's Theatre Workshop sang some favorite holiday songs for the crowds who assembled around the Belle Harbor Steakhouse and the NYFD firehouse to witness the lighting of the tree on the mall. This event signifies the official start of the holiday shopping season here in Rock - away. The Emcee for the occasion was Mr. John Lepore, president of the local Chamber of Commerce. Also on hand for the occasion were Ms. Noni Signoretti of Brown's Hardware, who organizes this lovely event annually,
Letters and local Councilman Eric Ulrich. The children performed under the direction of their music instructors, Ms. Jodee Timpone and Mr. Richard Louis-Pierre, who also accompanied them and played Christmas music be fore the actual ceremony began. The young RTC carolers delighted the audience with their renditions of traditional and popular holiday music. They were complimented by Councilman Ulrich for their performance and were rewarded with hot chocolate and cookies provided by The Belle Harbor Steakhouse. Every - one is invited to stop by and see the beautiful tree which will remain lit each evening from now through the New Year.
