Derech Emunoh Celebrates 105th Year Of Hanukah
The Congregation of Derech Emunoh celebrated its 105th year with Sabbath and religious services. They are experiencing a difficult time. Their temporary location, a double wide trailer that was donated by the developers of Arverne By The Sea, has been relinquished. The congregation is now looking to secure a suitable location with adequate space. Weekly Sabbath morning services are now held in the rabbi's apartment.
This year, Derech Emunoh celebrated Hanu - kah in the community room of "The Reef," which was secured by one of its tenants and new member of the congregation, Boris Temer. As friends traveled from Brooklyn, Manhattan and even Australia, all gathered and enjoyed delectable delights such as the famous Weiss bakery donuts, latkes and pancakes.
Raffle tickets were sold and each participant received a gift of a beautifully hand-painted ce - ramic dreidel.
The congregation enjoyed the music of the Brooklyn Hassidic Entertainers. Rabbi Heshy Rubinstein delivered a special sermon that began with a surprise greeting, via phone hookup, from Yossi Rubinstein in Jerusalem. Rubinstein entertained children and the elderly in the hospitals but now lives in Israel.
The highlight of the event was the lighting of the menorah by the men of the congregation. Several toys were distributed and donated to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center by Saidah Henderson.
