DMV Announces Yankees Championship Plate
New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner David J. Swarts has announced that a special license plate commemorating the New York Yankees' 2009 World Series victory is now available. The new plate features the famous interlocking "NY" and official 2009 Major League Baseball logo.
Just like the team that opened the original Yankee Stadium in 1923, the 2009 Bronx Bombers played their first year in a brand new Yankee Stadium and won the World Series. In 1923, the Yanks beat the New York Giants in six games. This year, they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, also in six games.
"The New York Yankees are one of the greatest franchises in professional sports history, having won 27 world championships," Swarts said.
The new limited edition plate design features the Yankees' interlocking "NY" atop the words "World Series Cham - pions" with the official 2009 Major League Baseball logo below. The logo design is predominantly blue, with white lettering and red and gold highlights.
A 2009 Yankees World Series Champions custom plate, available for both passenger and commercial vehicles, costs $50 for a random number/ letter configuration and $31.25 annually to keep the plates. The initial cost of a personalized plate of up to six characters is $81.25 and $62.50 annually.
