SJEH Hosts Chanukkah Celebration


St. John's Episcopal Hospital held an observance for Chanukkah, the Jewish festival of rededication and lights, on Monday, December 14. Rabbi Zalman Baida, the Hospital's Jewish chaplain, led an observance and candle lighting ceremony in the Hospital's Jewish meditation room. The ceremony was attended by Hospital staff, chaplains and others who then celebrated the holiday with latkes and jelly doughnuts. The Hospital provides electric menorahs for patients. The rabbi also performs religious services during major holidays including Rosh Hashanah (shofar blowing); Pesach; Sukkot (four Species), a sukkah is available near the Hospital's side entrance for visitors. St. John's Episcopal Hospital provides many services for orthodox Jewish patients including Sabbath elevator and kosher meals freshly prepared by a chef.
