Local Busted In RBB Rock-Hit Assault
A local man who assaulted a woman with a large rock on Rockaway Beach Boulevard on December 9 has been arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on charges of assault, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon, court recordsshow.
Court documents identify the assailant as John C. Maddox, 35, of 56- 10 Beach Channel Drive.
Maddox allegedly picked up a rock and struck Rockaway resident Alicea Quiles, 28, in the head several times before fleeing the area.
Eyewitnesses say that the assault was the result of an argument between the two, but it is unclear as to the reason for the altercation.
Police responding to the call found Quiles unconscious on the ground and bleeding from her head and face at Rockaway Beach Boulevard and Beach 100 Street at about 1:30 p.m.
Her husband, Jose Quiles, who witnessed the attack, chased after Maddox, screaming, "You killed my wife, you killed my wife," according to eyewitnesses.
The large rock used as a weapon was recovered from the street and Jose Quiles identified it as the weapon used to attack his wife.
Quiles was transported to Jamaica Hospital and was released earlier this week after treatment.
