St. Camillius/St. Virgilius C.Y.O. Basketball Update

On Sunday, November 29, the St. Cam illus/St. Virgilius Cadet (9th Grade) boys basketball team traveled to St. Thomas Apostle in Ozone Park for their third game of the season.

It was a close contest throughout and the S.C.V. squad pulled out a 51- 48 victory. Shakury Reynolds had an explosive game and led the team with 18 points. Markell French had 15 points and had some clutch foul shooting in the fourth quarter which iced the victory. Anthony LaPorta chipped in with 8 points, Tyquan Murray had 6 points and Anthony Galimi had 4 points. Kevin Magee and Keith Goldberg also contributed in the win.

On Sunday, December 6, the team faced St. Vincent Ferrer in Brooklyn. In another close contest, the boys allowed St. Vincent to stay close. The court conditions contributed to a lack of perimeter shooting, which forced S.C.V. to play an inside game. Sean O'Connell led the squad with 16 points and French put up 14 points, which also included some clutch foul shooting in the fourth quarter. Murray had 3 points and Reynolds chipped in with 5 points as the team won 38-35.

On Sunday, November 29, the S.C.V. Tyro boys improved their record to 4-0 with a 47-38 win over St. Matthias. The team looked as if they were in trouble after falling behind 20-10, but they managed to keep their cool and take over the lead by halftime.

Warren Saylor Jr. led the comeback with 15 points as he hit one big shot after another. Jyshawn Allen had too much speed for the other team to handle as he finished with 13 points. Kar - eem Padgett also contributed with 9 points and had some big rebounds. This was not one of the team's better per formances, but the Tyro boys did what they had to in order to win.

On Sunday, December 6, the S.C.V. Tyro boys improved their record to 5-0 with a 58-27 win over St. Margaret's. Allen and Padgett each had 14 points and Ismail Abdullah contributed 10 points. The team will play again in two weeks on Sunday, December 20 against a tough Gate of Heaven team at home. The game will start at 4:00 p.m.
