SFDS CYO Girls Sweep; X-Mas Tournament Dates Announced

The SFDS CYO Novice girls basketball team won both of their home games over the weekend. The Novice girls defeated the two teams to which they had previously lost. On Saturday, the girls defeated St. Adalbert, 15-8. The St. Francis girls were led by Courtney McCool and Devin Gavigan. On Sunday, the home stand continued with a tight win over St. Anastasia, 21-18. Emma Meade led the scoring for the Novice girls with 8 points. McCool, Gavigan and Megan Twomey were sharp offensively.

Kaitlin Neiswenter, Keira Walsh, Mollie Kuhl - mann and Megan 'G' denied a late rally and kept the lead for SFDS. The Bantam girls team beat Our Lady of Grace, 18-17, in overtime.

The SFDS Bantam boys defeated Our Lady of Trust, 19-14. John Boyle played a good game in the paint, scoring 5 points and controlling the boards. Eoin Reen added a spark on offense and defense. Ryan Moran scored 5 points and iced the game in the final seconds with clutch free throws.

SFDS then dropped a tough game at St. Vincent Ferrer, 27-22. Alex Goldberg was high scorer with 10 points. Kyle Connolly and Christian Apice were strong on the boards and Thomas Glynn played terrific defense.

The 25th Annual Christmas Tournament at St. Francis de Sales Gymnasium will begin on Friday night, December 18 with four games.

A full slate of games is scheduled on Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20. There will be three games a night from December 21-23. The tournament will then resume December 26-30 and concludes with the championship games on January 2. Tournament directors Marty and Keith Andresen once again anticipate a terrific tournament with 37 teams from Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island competing.

There will be plenty of Christmas music along with performances by the St. Francis cheerleaders, raffles and, of course, refreshments will be available.
