Service Workers Union Seeks Apprentices

State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith has announced that the United Service Workers Local Union #355 Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee will be seeking the following apprentices: four steamfitters, four sprinkler fitters, four sheet metal workers, four plumbers, and four pipefitters. The recruitment will take place from December 2, 2009 through December 1, 2010 and the applications will be available at Local Union #355, 267 Knickerbocker Avenue, Bohemia, NY from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., first Wednesday of each month, excluding legal holidays, during the time the recruitment is still active.

The committee requires that applicants be at least 18 years old; have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.); physically able to perform the work required as determined by the applicant's statement during the job interview; have a valid means of transportation to and from various worksites and related instruction classes; submit to and pass a drug screen test, at the committee's expense, after acceptance into the program.
