Heating Help With Heartshare

Need a little assistance with rising heating costs? If so, Councilman James Sanders Jr. urges you to apply for HeartShare's Neighborhood Heating Fund (NHF) program.

The program is slated to run from December to March and assists low-income families with their National Grid monthly heating bills.

Eligible individuals can receive a one-time grant up to $200 depending on the amount of their bill. The program is offered at no cost; however, there are income guidelines and applicants must provide proof of income, identification and most recent National Grid bill.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) recipients are also qualified for the NHF program.

Beginning December 9, applications may be obtained and submitted at Councilman Sanders' Laurelton office located at 226-18 Merrick Boulevard.

"These are tough times. Unemployment continues to rise and families are more cash strapped than ever - given these conditions, we need programs such as these. I am glad the Neighborhood Heating Fund is being offered again this year and welcome all those who can benefit to stop by my office," commented Sanders.
