Elderly Woman Thrown From Wheelchair, Robbed

An elderly woman in a wheelchair was attacked inside an apartment house complex on Beach 14 Street last week, The Wave has learned.

The woman was sitting in her wheelchair at 252 Beach 14 Street in the New Haven Plaza Apartment complex on the evening of November 23 when, according to a police report, she was approached from behind by "a large black male who dumped her from her wheelchair to the ground." The perpetrator then grabbed her purse. The victim, who said she didn't see the man's face, told police that the attack happened between 6:10 and 6:50 p.m. and that approximately $20 was stolen.

Although the report is not specific, a police source said it is likely the attack happened in the lobby. The woman, who according to a police flyer posted in the building is a resident there, did not need medical care. Police would not identify the victim.

The crime is being investigated by the 101 Precinct Detective Squad. If anyone has information she or he is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800- 577-TIPS or the 101 Detective Squad at 718-868-3428.
