SFDS Fourth Grade Basketball Team Completes Comeback Win
In CYO basketball action, the SFDS bantam boys defeated St. Rose, 46-20. Matt Decrescenzo and John Boyle led all scorers with 8 points apiece. Kyle Connolly played great defense. The fourth grade girls were at home this week against Our Lady of Hope
Hope was up for the first half of the game, but the SFDS girls came back strong. Hope was up 10-7 in the fourth quarter. Claire Hughes hit a 2 point shot to make the score 10-9. The SFDS girls exhibited pressure defense and it led to Sinead Gallagher hitting the winning 2-point shot to give the 11-10 win.
The team would like to give special thanks to Lorraine Agolia and the awesome cheerleaders. The SFDS girls' novice team won at Blessed Trinity on Sunday night, 18-12. The girls were led by Emma Meade's six points and 4 each from Nicole Gibson and Devin Gavigan. A strong defensive effort was led by Megan Twomey and Courtney McCool.
The seventh grade rookie girls has received good offensive contributions from Mary Ellen Woods, Serena Yannello, Kayla Kilgallen and Emma Knox. Kerri Brennan's contributions as point guard have been a big plus. Erin Klein's ball handling and aggressiveness has been key. Julia Carey, Taylor Vegh, Celeste Lynch, Madison Efron and Courtney Blum have contributed defensively. Cassie Moriarity played well in her first game back.
The Subnovice Blue Gold team played in a tight contest on Saturday against SFDS Blue. The game ended in a tie. Kevin Connelly, Joe Braskey, Jack and Matt McDade and James Carson. The games continue at the St. Francis gym and elsewhere this weekend. The SFDS Christmas tournament is just two weeks away. Details in The Wave next week.
