Suspicious Fire Knocks Out Three Stores

A fire that was declared of suspicious origin swept through three storefronts on Rockaway Beach Boulevard at Beach 97 Street on Monday night. Fire Department sources say the fire, which began in the basement of Get Fresh Fashions at 97-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, was called in to the 911 system at 8:54 p.m. Several local fire companies responded and the fire was declared under control at 9:25 p.m. Fire marshals are investigating the blaze. Nobody was hurt in the fire, but there was some damage to the stores and their merchandise, officials say. The other two stores involved were the Seabreeze Deli, which was open on Tuesday, and John & John's Pizza, which suffered smoke damage.
