St. Rose Of Lima Celebrates Brand New Basketball Court
St. Rose of Lima announces that, just five years after starting their basketball program with just 40 boys and girls participating, they now have ten boys and girls teams in the CYO basketball league.
This past summer, the St. Rose gymnasium received a new look as a brand new state-of-the-art gym floor was installed. The school says they are proud that their players will be playing on a floor that is found in the top college basketball programs in the country. In September there was a ribbon cutting for the floor. On hand for the very special event was Monsignor James Spengler, pastor of St. Rose of Lima; Theresa Anderson, principal of the school; N.Y. State Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer; and Jack Conneely, Home and School president.
In November, St. Rose unveiled their new scoreboard in memory of Kathleen Lyons-Casey, who was a 1974 graduate. On hand to accept the plaque in her memory was her mother, Dolores Lyons, and one of her brothers, Patrick. A spokesperson for St. Rose of Lima says they would like to thank Jay Lyons for helping make this dream come true.
The spokesperson continues that St. Rose, always known as a school of excellence in terms of Catholic education, now has even more to be proud of. Growing every year, they recently completed their first track season. The track program is said to have been a great success with over 60 boys and girls running for St. Rose blue and white, and with the parents having as much fun as the children did.
