St. Camillus/St.Virgilius CYO Basketball Update

On Sunday, November 8, the S.C.V. Cadet (9th grade) boys basketball team opened its season against O.L.P.H. at home. S.C.V. led at the end of the half in what was a close contest. The squad failed to put the visitors away and suffered a five point upset loss, 54-49. Sean O'Connell led Camillus with 21 points and Markel Ffrench had 16 points. Anthony Galimi chipped in with five points.

Following a bye week, the cadet team faced St. Rose of Lima at home on November 22. The team came out and inflicted a stifling press on the visiting St. Rose and ran up 21 points without an opposing score. The end result was a lopsided 79-18 win for the 9th grade team. Tyquan Murray led the scoring with 22 points. Shakury Reynolds and Markel Ffrench each had 16 points and Anthony Laporta and Anthony Galimi had 9 points and 8 points, respectively. Kevin Magee scored 6 points and Patrick Goldberg chipped in 2 points. Sean O'Connell was out with an injury. The St. Camillus/St. Virgilius Tyro boys team opened up their season on November 8 with a tight win over Blessed Sacrament by the score of 38- 36. The team was led by point guard Jyshawn Allen who scored 7 points. Kareem Padgett and Andrew Thomas also scored six points each. All the boys on the team contributed to the win.

On November 15, the Tyro boys played their second game against St. Pancreas and walked away with a 56- 45 win. The team's new players contributed, with Warren Saylor Jr. scoring 20 points and Ismail Abdullah added 12 points. They dominated the paint as both were too big for the other team to handle. Jyshawn Allen also contributed with 13 points. Everyone on the team gave a great effort.

On November 22, the Tyro team improved their record to 3-0 with a big 69- 38 victory over St. Thomas Apostle. Allen led the team with 16 points, Abdullah had 11 points and Saylor Jr. contributed 10 points. Andrew Thomas also had 8 and Kareem Padgett added 7 points. Everyone on the team scored and played very aggressive defense in the big win. The team is starting to play some good basketball and hopefully will stay on a roll as they get ready for their next game on November 29 at 4 p.m. at St. Matthias.
