Hayes Runs Personal Best
Congratulations to Meghan "Hollywood" Hayes (Breezy Point) on representing Bishop Kearney High School and the CHSAA league as she competed in her fourth consecutive New York State Federation Cross Country Championship. It was held this past weekend at Wappinger Falls' Bowdoin Park in upstate New York.
Hayes became the first Bishop Kearney runner to achieve this outstanding honor and demonstrated she was up for the challenge.
The starting line stretched over 200 meters as Hayes ran a personal best over the steep, hilly 3.1 mile course in a time of 20 minutes and 42 seconds. This spectacular time was good enough for Hayes to finish within the top 100 runners.
The best 300 female high school cross country runners from across New York State stood toe to toe anxiously awaiting the official command to begin the race. At 12:15 p.m. on a beautiful autumn day overlooking the Hudson River, the starter's gun was sounded. The competitors sprinted across an open field to a narrow path of three feet wide and the race was on.
Hayes ran a smart tactical race which enabled her to finish in 99th place and sixth for the CHSAA league. She did a super job! Best of luck to her in the upcoming indoor track season.
