Going A Bit Too Far

Dear Editor,

I am an avid reader of The Wave. However, while reporting on a shooting which occurred in Rock away

Beach two weeks ago, I wonder if you could not have used a little bit of discretion in doing so.

A crime happens outside the home of a resident, and you blatantly list said homeowner's address in your re - porting. Was that necessary? Home - owners on that block had nothing to do with the crime being reported, the police responded immediately, the perpetrator was caught. Do you ever think of the consequences which might occur after listing an innocent homeowner's exact address? I think not. Now, I know you'll hide behind "freedom of the press," however, mayhap next time you'll think twice about "freedom and peace of mind" of homeowners populating that block and just list the block itself.

Not only do innocent homeowners have to contend with the fact that, indeed, a crime did occur outside their home, but now they have curious people ogling said site and people thinking twice about visiting them. Nice reporting? I think not.

DEBBIE HORAN
