'Little North Pole' Lights Up 12/5
      The MurĂ© family of Neponsit will light their annual 'Little North Pole' on Saturday, December 5, as they turn on the lights at 144-03 Neponsit Avenue at 6 p.m. sharp. Every December Joe and Maritza MurĂ© transform their home into "The Little North Pole," a magical winterwonderland.

SJEH To Offer HIV/AIDS Screening
      St. John's Episcopal Hospital will offer HIV/AIDS screening on World AIDS Day, Tuesday, December 1. The screening, which is confidential and free of charge, will take place 2 p.m. and 5 p.m in the Hospital's first floor Boardroom. SJEH is located at 327 Beach 19 Street in Far Rockaway.

Beach 87 Street Skate Share Fundraiser A Success
      A few weeks ago, the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance hosted an exhibition of photography by local youth in order to raise money for a skate share on Beach 87 Street. The funds raised that night covered the cost of the prints, exhibition books, boards and helmets for the 10 kids in the skateshare program.

DA Brown Visits 101 Precinct Meeting
     Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, in office for close to 19 years, addresses community members at the 101 Precinct's Community Council meeting on November 18. Brown reported that homicides are down in Queens by 19 percent in 2009. "We also have the best arrest to arraignment time in the city," said Brown. "This means the cops are out on the streets more quickly [than other officers]." Also pictured are Deputy Inspector Brian McMahon, 101 Precinct commanding officer, and Council President Justin Canley.
