St. Francis Sixth Grade Girls Celebrate Championship Win Against Hope J

Bottom row: Morgan Koenig, Cecilia Hanson, Hayley Urban, Tess and Jackie Gallagher St. Francis de Sales 2 (sixth grade girls) won the CYO Diocesan Cham - pionship by defeating Hope J at Juniper Valley Field. They beat Hope M at Fort Tilden last Saturday and advanced the next day to win the championship. The game was a real nail biter.

Jackie Gallagher and Bryn Nagel scored goals in regulation. Emily Carlton scored a goal in overtime, but Hope would even the game at 3-3 and the championship would be decided in a penalty kick.

Veronica Walsh, Bryn Nagel, Mor - gan Koenig scored in the first round of penalty kicks. But with the game still tied after the first five players from each team had their opportunity to take a shot, sudden death would decide the winner.

Hope's player missed her penalty kick shot. SFDS' Shannon Rochelle nailed her shot deep into the corner of the goal to win the game.

The SFDS team is coached by Bill Urban and Jenny Breen.
