Williams Aims For Metro Boxing Heavyweight Championship
For Joseph Williams to rise within the boxing community, the reigning 2009 Daily News Golden Gloves super heavyweight novice champion knows only victories will elevate his growing amateur profile.
The 21-year old will step in the ring tonight and try to improve to 11-0 when he takes on Stivens Bujaj in the finals of the 201-pound open class at the USA Boxing Metro Championships. It starts at 7 p.m. and it takes place in Franklin Square at Platt - deutsch Restaurant, located at 1132 Hemp stead Turn pike. Admission is $20.
Williams, who represents the Rockaway Ropes Boxing Club in Arverne, goes into the fight at 10-0 after defeating Antoine Evans in the semifinals. Bujaj, an 18-year old who won the 2009 Golden Gloves heavyweight novice champion, is 14-1.
"I'm going to show my boxing skills," Williams said.
A win for Williams would send the 21-year old to compete in the Metro Boxing Regional Champion - ships.
