Mahadkar Named Chair OB/GYN
St. John's Episcopal Hospital has a nnoun ced the appointment of Mohan Mahadkar, MD, to the position of Chair man of the Department of Ob - stetrics/Gynecology. Dr. Mahadkar has assumed the department's administrative responsibilities.
"We are delighted that Dr. Mahadkar has joined us as our new chairman in Obstetrics/ Gynecology," said John Gup ta, Chief Executive Officer, St. John's Episcopal Hospital.
"Dr. Ma hadkar is the right leader at this time to focus on growth and improving our ser vice that is the sole provider of obstetrics on the Rockaway penin sula and that is so pivotal to our community."
Mahadkar said his plans for the Obstetrics/Gynecology Department are, "Simply put, I want to bring in more patients. I plan to do that by bringing in more private attendings who will want to bring their patients here. I am a private attending with two private offices. I know what private physicians need. I want to do what it takes so that our doctors can happily bring their patients to St. John's Episcopal Hospital. But most importantly, I want to improve the communications culture of this department. I am talking to everybody. I work well with people. I love working with people actually. Also I want us to focus on continually raising the quality of care we deliver."
Mahadkar added, "I go regularly to Obstetrics/Gynecology Practice at the Ambulatory Care Center and I see that there are a lot of needy patients who require our medical help and attention. There are quite a few high-risk pa - tients, too. But they are wonderful patients and I look forward to serving them in the best ways possible."
Mahadkar was formerly affiliated with St. John's Queens Hospital. He received his medical degree from the Grant Medical College of Mumbai University in India. He completed his American residency at St. John's Queens Hospital and has been in private practice since 1984. He was an attending at St. John's Queens Hos - pital since that time also, and served in many different capacities, including Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology and President of the Medical Staff. He has also served as president of the Queens Gynecology Society. Mahadkar is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
