Historical Views of the Rockaways

Highland Place, Rockaway Point, Rockaway Beach
From The Rockaway Museum Commentary by Emil Lucev, Curator Dedicated To The Memory Of Leon S. Locke

Highland Place at Rockaway Point is between Reid Avenue and Bedford Avenue on the north side of Rockaway Point Boulevard, and between Neptune Walk and Bedford Avenue on the south side of Rockaway Point Boulevard. Which side of Rockaway Point Boulevard this photo was taken on in the early 1920s is unknown.

All of the bungalows are decorated for a special event, most likely for the Fourth of July. It could be that someone has hit it big in a lottery! The shellworks on the bank in front of the shacks read 'Lucky Strike Stella.'

Over the years, yours truly has placed many Rockaway Point images in my column and asked for identification of people, places or things in the old photographs. Maybe I'll get lucky this time. Somebody please!
