FR Bandit Robs In North Valley Stream

By Nicholas Briano

A Rockaway Park man was arrested last week for robbing a man and woman at gunpoint while wearing a hockey mask in North Valley Stream, according to police.

Jose Gutierrez, 24, of 320 Beach 100 Street and Luis Garcia, 20, of Brooklyn demanded money from the victims as they arrived at a Greenway Boulevard home at 5:20 a.m., according to Nassau County police. The alleged robbers were wearing white hockey masks and pulled handguns on the couple.

The bandits tried to make away with cell phones, a blue tooth, a purse, and an undisclosed amount of money, police said. The suspects didn't make it very far as they were apprehended by Fifth Precinct police officers minutes later when they tried to evade the police by striking the patrol car and running away. After a foot chase, the two were caught and arrested with the stolen goods recovered from the suspect's white Acura.

Gutierrez and Garcia were charged with robbery and criminal use of a firearm, police said. Garcia was also charged with criminal mischief and unlicensed operator of a vehicle. They were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead last Sunday.
