They're back … Finally fish have shown up, and not just any fish. I'm talking striped bass. The good weather was accompanied by good fishing this past weekend.
Out in the ocean stripers and blues made a regular appearance each morning and afternoon. Fish could be seen rolling through baitfish with the usual gulls overhead serenading anglers with their cries as they circled the waters below.
Fishermen from private, party boats and at times the shore all got their licks in.
But the ocean didn't have a monopoly on the action, the bay our bay came to life. Tuesday morning Chuck and friends aboard the charter boat Karen Ann landed bass to twenty pounds using a variety of light tackle approaches. While on the topic of light tackle aficionados, Cheech, my longtime friend often time mentor in light tackle techniques, was on board several mornings this week and bent the rods with yours truly.
Saturday Jim and friends tugged on the rods arm weary at times from the action, and that's a good thing!
Blackfish also represented Sunday Captain Eddie Parker netted a ten pounder from an offshore wreck. The blackfishing has been good, and with the sea temperatures dropping a notch or two should only get better.So Until the next tide …
