Holding Mail Is Not An Exact Science

Dear Editor,

Well, it's happened again! Several months ago we were planning a short vacation and went to the Rockaway Park Post Office on Beach Channel Drive to have them hold our mail. When we came home a week later, we discovered that the mail had not been held.

When I went in to the Post Office I asked the clerk behind the window to speak with the supervisor. When I told him what had happened he re - plied "Well, holding mail is not an ex - act science." Apparently, the newspaper deliverer could figure out our request, but the Post Office could not. The supervisor, James Marabel's attitude was that it was not his job to hold the mail. When I showed my annoyance, he told me I must speak to him with respect or he would not help me and proceeded to leave the window and ended our discussion.

Two weeks ago we planned another trip and again I went in to have the mail held. This time I made sure I personally handed the card directly to the clerk behind the window. And again, when we returned, the mail was not held. After several attempts to reach Mr. Marabel, I finally spoke to him and he said that no one could explain why the mail was not held. When I asked him what I should do next time we took a trip, he replied that I better watch how I speak to him or he will not help me. I re main - ed silent at that point and he finally said to bring the card directly to a supervisor.

I am sick of being abused by this "public servant." After all, we are pay ing this man's salary, and he has nothing but contempt for the public. I wonder if anyone else has been treated this way by this person. All I can say is heaven help us all if we must deal with this type of nonsense when the congress decides to pass a government run health care system.

They can't even deal with the mail in a sensible way, how they will possibly care for our health.
