"Gifted 2009" is the latest incarnation of the annual showcase featuring work by RAA member artists. Each year the diversity of the organization is reflected in the range of mediums and styles to be explored in "Gifted." The opening reception is this Sunday, November 15 from 1-3 p.m. The show is on view in sTudio 6 Gallery from November 14 to December 13. New gallery hours for all exhibits are Saturdays and Sundays 12-4 p.m. and by appointment.

There are surprises and treasures to be found in "Gifted." Yuri Yurov's photographs are paintings executed with a camera.

The air filling them is mysterious and anticipatory; the figures graceful, perched on an unknown yet strangely alluring brink.

In "Untitled" Karen Neuringer uses the white of the canvas as a watercolorist uses the white of the paper. The spaces between the oil and acrylic strokes fill the portrait with breath. In the guise of sketchiness, life and subtext emerge.

"On the Shore," a digitally manipulated photograph by Jessica Schul - man, sets the highly pitched violins of a sky ablaze with orange sunset in counterpoint to the deep cello-toned vibrations of a dark beach.

Come to the Sunday reception to see more RAA member works; meet the artists and be entertained by live music.

"Glass and Water," on view Nov - ember 21 - December 6 in sTudio 7 Gallery, presents a singularly unique symphony of work by two very different artists. Renée Radenberg is a glass artist who uses recycled fragments of the material and of metal to create mobiles and sculptures reflecting the natural world. For Radenberg, the space, the air around the fragments is as important as the fragments themselves and the sculptures they form. Christian Le Gars is a renowned art - ist, who so brilliantly curated RAA's printmaking exhibit, "InkSplash." "Glass and Water" will serve as a retrospective of Le Gars' considerable work. It will take the viewer on the artist's journey from watercolorist, to printmaker, whose work appears in the Library of Congress, to an exciting versatility that combines the two disciplines. Le Gars' most recent work, not seen before this exhibit, will also be on display.

"Glass and Water" opening reception is Saturday, November 21, 1-3 p.m. On Sunday, November 22 artists' dem - onstrations take place 1-3 p.m.

Satur day, November 28 will see an Evening Art and Music Affair, 7-11 p.m. as will Saturday, December 5 from 7-11 p.m., serving as a closing party.

The show will feature a Fundraising "Tree" to raise funds for RAA. More about these two exhibitions next week.

Christian Le Gars was accepted to show his work in the exhibit of the New York Society of Etchers at the National Arts Club, on view through November 13. NAC is an historic art club at 15 Gramercy Park.

The slate of nominees for the election of RAA board of directors is now complete. Elections will be held at the December 14 meeting/holiday party. Only paid members may vote. If you can't attend the party, contact the RAA office to acquire a ballot. Four slots on the board are open. The slate is as follows: Geoff Rawling is running unopposed for president; Maryann McEvoy is running unopposed for secretary; running for reelection are Dennis Guiney, Adam McLoughlin and Renée Radenberg; running for the first time are Tony Curcio, Ross Radusky and Sophia Skeans.
