Playing the fourth quarter has been a rollercoaster for the Beach Channel Dolphins this season. Last Saturday, they experienced their highs in a frantic comeback finish against John Adams. But the Dolphins ultimately suffered the lows. They came back from a 14-point deficit at home in the fourth quarter. More ... The events surrounding the closing of Stella Maris High School haven't quite hit Lady Flippers girls soccer coach Michelle Raaf yet. She knows how the spectre of the closing has affected her team emotionally. And while it has been tough for Raaf, the alumna was impressed that her team persevered and bonded together in such a trying time. More ... It was an exhausting afternoon for the Beach Channel boys' soccer team on Tuesday. The Dolphins team had battled through injuries and after playing 100 minutes of action against the second seed Thomas Edison, penalty kicks would decide the winner. But for all of Beach Channel's continual persistence, they could not stop Edison from coming away with the victory. More ... On Sunday, October 25, sixty-six St. Francis de Sales runners competed at Alley Pond Park in the CYO Sectional Championships with outstanding re - sults. The Sectional Championships divided the eleven competing parishes into two sections; Black and Yellow. Competing in five age and gender divisions in the Black section, SFDS won three championships. More ... On Sunday, November 1, the Rockaway Ravens Jr. Midgets team had their first home victory of this season and it could not have come at a better time. The Ravens defeated the Staten Island Hurricanes, 19-0, in the first round of the playoffs. The team will advance to the NFC conference championship game which will be played on Saturday, November 7 at 3 p.m. More ... Wet weather and winds set the tempo for most of last week's fishing. Nothing unusual because that's been most of the fall, the easterly winds at times seemed relentless. The full moon didn't have the impact bass fishermen hoped for. However, as of Tuesday morning, a body of bass and blues moved down the beach and showed up at the inlet and points east. More ... St. Francis de Sales wrapped up another very successful CYO soccer regular season, winning about 75 percent of its games. Most of the teams kick off the playoffs this weekend. The first and second grades do not have playoffs. Those teams finished their seasons last weekend. More ... The Rockaway Rockies will close shop on Saturday for Halloween, but on November 7, they will continue to skate on the hockey rink at Shore Front Parkway and Beach 108 Street. Games are played every Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the younger skaters taking the early stint and the older (8-12) youth beginning at 10:30 a.m. More ... While taking a short break from trick or treating, the Rockaway Uni ted boys set the world on fire again this past weekend with a commanding 4-2 win over the Brooklyn Patriots. Shortly after the kickoff, Jag Gui derelli let loose a booming curveball with his dangerous left leg that sail ed up and over the Patriots keeper. More ... The New York Aviators will take to the ice tonight at the Aviator Sports Complex as the newest minor league hockey team takes part in their first game in the North East Professional Hockey League.
