Fishermen Celebrate 14th Annual Surf Fishing Tournament

By Kevin Brown

With a nor'easter just hours away, the 14th Annual Fishing Tournament had its best weather anyone could remember. Beautiful sunshine and a calm ocean made for a comfortable fishing day.

Nothing was biting, but that didn't mean the fishermen didn't have fun. Sponsors such as Curran's Meats (Beach 129 Street) supplied the barbeque meats and Healy's Pub (Beach 108 Street) donated the spirits. The feast was as perfect as the weather.

Legendary fisherman Dick Meille stopped by and gave pointers to a couple of anglers who were lucky enough to be within earshot. Chrissy James put a dent in the gender barrier. If she brings a fishing pole next year, she could break it.

Thanks once again to Judge Murphy for presiding over the proceedings. Hopefully for next year festivities on Wednesday, October 13, the fish will cooperate and join our party. Til then, stay healthy and always keep your glass half full.
