Duke Senior Linebacker Named ACC Player Of The Week
Duke senior linebacker Vincent Rey has earned ACC Player of the Week honors after helping the Blue Devils to a 17-13 victory over Maryland this past Saturday.
Rey, a native of Far Rockaway, recorded eight total tackles, one tackle for loss and a fourth quarter interception to share the league's Defensive Lineman of the Week accolade with Virginia's Nate Collins.
Duke (4-3) held the Terrapins to just 249 yards - 87.6 yards under their season average - and a season-low 11 first downs. The 22-year old Rey starred as a linebacker at Bayside High School. After graduation, he went on to play for one season at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. He helped Mercersburg to a 9-1 record and a league championship. Rey, who stands at 6-foot and weighs 245 pounds, is currently the leading tackler for the Blue Devils. He has ranked among the top five in the Atlantic Coast Conference in tackles per game the last two seasons. The Far Rock - away native is one of two players along with Johan Zuanich in the school's history to run back two fumble returns for touchdowns.
