BCAC White Shamrocks Come To Play In The Rain
The BCAC Pee Wee White Sham - rocks came to play Saturday eve - ning at the Broad Channel Mem - orial Field. It rained hard for all four quarters. The field was soaked and muddy. A hard-fought thriller in the pouring rain and mud Saturday night came down to the last play of the game as the White Shamrocks miss ed the extra point for the tie at the Broad Channel Memorial Field. The White Shamrocks ended up on the wrong side of a 14-13 loss to the Cardinals from Glen Cove.
Ian Byrne scored both touchdowns for the Shamrocks. QB Jack Collins ran for 69 yards. Byrne got an open lane to run through with the help of the veteran offensive line of James Agoglia, Mikey Butkie - wicz, Jack Tan sey, Pete Meehan, Matty Schmitt and Jack Ward. A key block from the fullback Mikey McManus opened the sidelines for Byrne to get the Shamrocks on the board in the first half.
The BCAC defense was great in stopping Glen Cove's offense. The defense was led by Dominick Mai - orano, Matty McDonagh, Peter Mai orano, Nick Meehan and Dam - ien Stathis. BCAC's defenders held the Cardinals offense at bay the whole game. Glen Cove had two touchdowns on plays that were broken from would be tackles in the backfield. Only two first downs were allowed.
Byrne would score his second TD with time expiring utilizing blocks from Dillon Ostrander and James Tuohey. A successful extra point would have ended the game in a tie, but the White Shamrocks couldn't convert, leading to the loss.
"I was disappointed we missed an extra point. Overall, I was pleased with the guys' effort. We overcame some of the adversities that happen in a game, you are going to have those in every game. Overall, I was pleased with the effort," drenched coach Jamie Agoglia said as he was leaving the field after the game.
