NYCHA Friends And Family Day Entertains Locals

Band performing live for the crowd. Band performing live for the crowd. With good weather and a host of entertaining activities, NYCHA held its 75th Anniversary in combination with Hammel Houses Resident Council Inc.'s Friends and Family Day on September 26.

Festivities included a raffle drawing, carnival games, giveaways, free food and beverages, horse rides, an inflatable bounce house, and a clown providing face painting and balloon animals for the children. There was also an appearance by the Pandora box train, giving rides to children. Adults were able to play on enlarged chess, checkers, and connect four sets and peruse a display of historical NYCHA facts. There were also several live bands to entertain the crowds.

Attendees enjoyed treats that included sno-cones, popcorn, cotton candy, slices of watermelon and candy bags for the children.

The event was organized by Peggy Thomas, president of Hammel Houses Resident Council, in collaboration with council members and volunteers. Participants and sponsors of the event included the 2010 census (a partner of Hammel Houses), Ocean Bay C.D.C., Peninsula Hospital Center, Pandora's Box, Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, NSA Supermarket, the Black Cowboys Association of Brooklyn, and DJ Maxwell.
