NPS Moves Office To Floyd Bennett Field
The National Park Service anno - un ced on Wednesday that visitor ser vice operations for Gateway Na - tio nal Recreation Area's Jamaica Bay District will be consolidated into Building 135 Ranger Station, located at the entrance to Floyd Bennett Field. All of the functions that were carried out at Jacob Riis Park Bath - house, such as the sale of permits, will now be done at the new location. Bathrooms will be open at Bay 9 through the end of November or until there's snow on the ground. The Bathhouse will be open on a seasonal basis, from April through October, traditionally the months of peak visitation to the park. The new operation will begin on November 7.
The move to the new location will allow the National Park Service to be better able to utilize our limited staff. Therefore, we will be able to serve the public far more efficiently than we could have by trying to keep the Riis Park Bathhouse open on a year - round basis. The Building 135 Ranger Station is a much smaller building, and can easily be staffed by one or two people. Also, the Ranger Station has ample parking, restrooms, is fully handicapped accessible, and is easily accessible by car and public transportation."
