Green Shamrocks Tough It Out In Ice Bowl
In the nastiest weather in recent years, the BCAC Pee Wee Green Shamrocks took to the frozen tundra of Wantagh to face the undefeated Warriors.
It was the biggest game for the Shamrocks this year and they did not disappoint their fans who traveled through flooded waters to get there.
The wind was brutal and the Green Machine couldn't feel their hands. But that did not stop the offensive line made up of Thomas Houck, Sebastian Frieberg, Gerard Dejesus, Nicco Finizio and Ryan Hanning from creating great blocking throughout the entire game. The Wantagh Warriors were very rarely in the Shamrocks backfield.
The Shamrocks were being shut out at the half and all seemed lost. That is when Coach Sean gave a speech that rivaled Knute Rockne's and fired the Shamrocks up for the second half. It was so powerful and moving that coach Kenny even wiped a tear from his eye.
The second half saw the Shamrock defense toughen up and only allow one more touchdown. The BCAC charge was lead by Ryan Ehret, Tyler Strika, Michael "The Hammer" Boyle, Anthony "Fire" Fuiry, Joey "Mad Dog" Kazmeirczuk and Aiden Clifford. QB Jack Allen busted free for a 32-yard touchdown, which led to a Michael O'Connell two-point conversion.
Then with time running out, veteran running back Kevin Koestner scrambled for his first touchdown ever. His mother could be heard screaming, "Kevin got his first home run." My apologies to Sebastian "The King of the Ring" Frieberg. Last week, I left out that he also recovered a fumble in last week's game. The Shamrocks played the game last week in the cold and never complained. They were the true warriors that day, and they continue to make their coaches and parents proud every week.
This week, the Shamrocks take to the road for the last time this year to take on Brentwood Saturday night at 7:30.
