Love, Peace And Unity Tournament Concludes Successful Season

The Love, Peace and Unity Basket ball Tourna - ment culminated in Sep tem ber with the LPU Pro- Am team de feating the Gymrats. City Tech graduate Roman Perez scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half as he led all scorers. Perez recently graduated from City Tech and was signed to play in the Dominican Republic Basketball League.

The Jazzy Rockers team captured the championship in the 18 and under division by winning 69- 66. Franklin K. Lane star Shaquan Brown led the team with 12 points. Charles Healey (Kings bor - ough), Mark Hudson (Kingsborough) and Raishon Miller added 10 points a piece. Isaiah Moul trie, Kevin Felder, Nigel and little Josiah all made strong contributions.

"Every once in a while, we get a team that has talent and chemistry," said Rockers coach Jeff Wilder. "The team has that. They just have to stay together and the titles will come."

The exciting basketball games were a fitting conclusion to another successful Love, Peace and Unity Tour nament, which took place at Inwood Terrace Park.

11 of the 14 players who participated on the LPU Pro-Am team are in college or have a college degree. Three others are successful employed.

LPU National Chairman and foun der Jeffrey "Jazz" Moye would like to thank the teams, coaches, sponsors and fans for contributing their time to the summer tournament.

"The season was a success," Moye said. "I want to thank all of the workers and volunteers for doing a great job."

The Love, Peace and Unity Tournament would also like to thank Jeremiah C. Gaffney, St. John's Baptist Church Men's Ministries in Inwood, Deacon Ralph Williamson, Reverend Harold Kelly, Greg Nunn, and Jeff Wilder.
