Clifford L. Swatts

Construction Worker

Clifford L. Swatts, 76, a longtime Rockaway resident, died October 3.

Swatts was born August 3, 1933, in Calvary, Georgia, but moved to New York at the age of 18 and worked as a construction worker for 35 years. He was a member of the Tabernacle Com - munity C.M.E. Church, St. Albans, New York.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Winnie R. Swatts; two daughters, Denise Swatts-Scher and Norma R. Meaders; two sons, David Johnson and Michael Swatts; nine grandchildren, Nicole Brooks, Shawn and Eleanor A. Darby, Idris and Isaiah Swatts, David Fordam, Niquette Johnson, Machelle Swatts, and Michael Swatts; five great-grandchildren, Jamal and Gary Gordon, Dante Graham, Tariah and Tahmel Darby; brother, William Canty; sister, Carol Canty; three sisters-in-law, Jurlie Canty, Christine Swatts, and Vera Canty; two aunts, Willie Mae Jenkins and Pearl Jones; and friend, Viola Gayle.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A memorial service was held at Tabernacle Community C.M.E. Church, St. Albans, New York. Disposition took place at St. Michael's Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
