Alfonzo Hicks, 76, a longtime Rockaway resident, died October 9.
Hicks was born April 29, 1933, in Henderson, North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict earning the National Defense, United Nations, and Korean Service medals. He worked as a Field Super - visor for Chelnik Parking Garage until his retirement in 2000.
He survived by his wife of 53 years, Emma Frances; son, Alfonzo Hicks, Jr., of Troy, New York; two brothers, Stanley (Georgia) Fogg and Walter (Leola) Fogg of Henderson, North Carolina; sister, Frances Harleston of Bronx, New York; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Bridges of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Turner of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Helen Cabiness of Bowie, Mary - land; grandchildren, Dante Brown, Alfonzo Hicks III, Portia Hicks, and Sheriss Hicks; great-grandchildren, Amariyana Hicks and Jomar Sanchez; godchildren, Rev. Robert Morgan, Antoinette White, and Tristan French- Joseph; cousin, Pattie Burroughs; family friend, Yvonne Drewe; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. A memorial service was held at St. John's Baptist Church, Inwood, New York. Interment took place at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York.
