Was Not Surprised

Dear Editor,

I was not surprised to read in last week's Wave of some families having to vacate their apartments in the boardwalk building mentioned in The Wave. According to the article the fire escapes were rusty. That is no surprise as salty sea mist and age take its toll on the escapes. I have lived in the building two years ago it is a beautiful building reminiscent of the art deco structures you see in Miami

Letters Beach. But this did not happen over - night. I remember the rents were not cheap. Too often owners let management companies take over daily operations of the type of buildings in the article and corners are cut. I even knew of a resident in a different building being told after sewer water ruined clothes he put in a washer, "If you don't like it move!" Somehow own ers have to be held responsible. Hopefully the people inconvenienced will be able to find shelter soon at the owner's expense.
