DOB: Please Leave The Premises

By Nicholas Briano

DOB ordered residents of 12 apartments to temporarily vacate the building at 122-20 Ocean Promenade due to deteriorated and inaccessible fire escapes. Twelve families were ordered to vacate their Rockaway Park homes this week by the Department of Buildings (DOB) due to rusted and inaccessible fire escapes outside their apartment windows, according to DOB officials.

DOB says residents of the apartments located along the B and C lines of the building were forced to leave until the fire escapes are repaired. The B and C lines refer to apartments, 1B, 2B, 3B etc.

Epirus Properties Inc. purchased the 72- unit, six-story building located at 122-20 Ocean Promenade just three weeks ago and were unreachable for comment. Men, however, were seen working outside the building this week, perhaps on the fire escapes.

The 12 residents forced to leave cannot return until the fire escapes meet DOB's safety and accessibility standards.

It was just a year ago this week that an apartment located at 133 Beach 120 Street was partially vacated for the same reason, that time leaving 15 families out on the street.

An example of the disrepair the fire escapes have fallen under prior to Epirus Properties Inc. obtaining the building three weeks ago. An example of the disrepair the fire escapes have fallen under prior to Epirus Properties Inc. obtaining the building three weeks ago.
