Snow No Excuse Not To Think Little League Baseball

As the temperature drops this winter, most parents will be thinking about indoor activities for their children, and ice hockey, basketball, and gymnastics will appear on their kids' schedules.

But the newly bolstered board of directors of the Rockaway Little League aren't resting on their laurels of an improved last season ... they can't wait for the spring!

Earlier this year, several parents stepped up to meet the challenge of improving theleague, helping organization President Marty Andresen and his dedicated leaders to make things even better.

In addition to some administrative changes, little leaguers were treated to off-field activities and special nights at the "field." The new group of parents created a league website, (www.rockawaylittleleagueny. com) to better communicate with parents.

This new website included updated schedules, team standings, and a place for parents to upload pictures of their little leaguers.

Also new this year, parents were asked to complete a questionnaire that surveyed their satisfaction with the league, its coaches, and organization. The board of directors has begun the process of reviewing the comments on these documents to plan for next year.

Not wanting to wait until the last minute, (or even the spring thaw), the Rockaway Little League has already started the registration process for next (2010) season. The hopes are that parents will sign their kids up early, allowing for the league to start earlier, and in a much more organized fashion.

As a special offer, parents who register their kids for the 2010 season by the end of this (2009) calendar year will be able to lock in last season's fee schedule ($140 for one child, $230 for two, $320 for three or more) before a new fee schedule goes into effect.

Parents are also being asked to volunteer on any of the league's committees; Competition, Administration, Maintenance, Fund Raising Public Relations, and Volunteer Coordination, all of which will be meeting soon after the new year to get started in 2010.

Interested parents are encouraged to visit the league website (www.rock awaylittleleagueny.com) for more information or to download the 2010 season registration form.
